a bit has changed lately. back down in southern California. got a new gig for an internet company that sells car parts. still training capoeira with our LA chapter. got some glasses after finally getting my eyes checked.
these past few months have been interesting to say the least.
I think I need to rethink about what tools I use to maintain my site.
Since living in SF, I've been introduced to hipsters.
I am a pretty accepting guy, but maybe I've just had some bad luck and/or encounters.
1) I was at this bar called the Kockout Room in the mission/bernal heights. Right off the bat, they charged us $5 to go in.. mind you, on a Wed. We wanted to try it out, so figured why not. who the hell charges a cover to a bar??? anyway, we go in, and instantly realize it's a hipster joint. everyone is dressed in the typical attire: tight pants, plad shirts, beards, long hair, nerd glasses, etc... we order some beers, begin to chat.. then suddenly, these 2 girls start to play the cello.... on a distorted amp... on reverb. we reached a point where we had to leave becaues the sound was unbearable. yet, eveyone else seemed to be enjoying it. We just didnt get it, and left. more power to them.
2) i was sitting at a table eating some pizza at one of my favorite pizza joints. It was a hot day, so people were out. these 2 people asked if they could sit with me, i was actually happy since i didnt mind the company. the girl seemed normal, but teh guy was definetly a hipster. He began to talk to me about his job, as a barista. and complained about how people didnt appreciate his coffee at work. understandable, some people are just jerks. then i asked him where he lived, as small talk. he basically lived at a friends house and from the looks of it didnt seem to want to find a place. seriously? you're going to sit here complain about a barista job when you just live nowhere? maybe im being judgmental, but the whole convo just felt strange.
3) i was walking down to the corner mini-mart. Suddenly this gang of strangely dressed kids just started to prance around. one girl was wearing a suit, with a tutu undernearth, and had some crazy colored hair. the rest werent too far off. Only in SF would you really see this. I was in a bad mood that day, so they just seemed extra annoying to me.
I dont know, I just get a sense sometimes that some of the people I talk to feel they are better than me for being that way, a little patronizing. As if the know something better than me.
ok, anyway... rant out...
I've been into like punk/rock type music lately. I think the drums and distorted guitar are inline with my recent mood. New music is always welcome, so it's a good thing. Definitely different than the reggae/spanish rock/hip hop stuff I usually listen to.
I've been listening to some Incubus, old and new, and it's let me to appreciate them as a band more lately. I think the first time I really heard them much was on KROQ and their Make Yourself album.. with Stellar. I then bought their "Crows" album, and for some reason didn't really like it. I think i was expecting an album similar to their previous, a bit more chill. But lately, I've picked it back up and its amazing how a little bit of time and change really changes the music. It's one of my favorite albums right now and I've must of listened to "Sick Sad Little World" like 092343 times by now.
Also, I've been playing some Rock Band with a few friends, and that game is hella fun. I should buy Rock Band 2, but I really enjoy that game only when playing with people. It's all about embarrasing yourself as the 'lead singer'.
I think I realized I'm not really a blogger. So yeah...
My friends came up to visit and just hang out this past weekend. It's the first trip they've made since I moved up to San Francisco. It was pretty damn fun, I'll have to admit.
We hung out with Jordan on Friday night, since they flew in to San Jose. Then, on the next day, we drove up to SF and just walked around a bit, had lunch at a philly steakhouse, and then headed over to my friend's potluck party on Saturday night. We had drinks and played games. Then headed back, and Nelson and I walked around the Mission streets for a bit.
good times.
I'm trying to spark some life into my website. I started out doing some kind of design for it, figured that it would interest me in doing a little html/css work. However, after a few hours of toying around, I realized that my design skills suck... big time. So instead, I'm going to opt to finding some template and just have most of the work done for me. Yes, I am that lazy.
I tried WordPress, and it seemed ok. But a friend of mine said it's the most P.O.S. code ever, so I decided not to. He also suggested using a blog enginine out there; requiring me to do the work - screw that.
So for now, MovableType it is...
I updated my MovableType installation. They have done so much to this since I last used it. Still playing around with this, not sure what exactly I'll do.
